The Demo Version is a fully functional although severely limited version, of Energy TechPro-EM. The directory structure is preserved, but most of the content has been deleted. This allows you to see the topics covered and gain an understanding of the "look and feel" of TechPro, without the benefit of its full content. All PDFs and other externally linked files have been deleted from the Demo.
To easily identify pages that have content, look for Yellow Highlighted links on Index Pages.
If you are new to the energy management field, then you should start by reviewing the contents of the Overview Section. If you are new to Energy TechPro, then please read this page to the bottom before you begin. If you are already familiar with Energy TechPro and its contents, then use the navigation panel to the left to jump directly into the program.
Energy TechPro-EM provides information about how to conduct an energy audit and manage the energy usage of commercial and industrial facilities. For information about residential energy management, please see Energy TechPro-RES. For information about industrial processes, see Energy TechPro-IC.
Sections:
Audits - how to conduct an energy audit for the entire facility, or only a specific sector/technology
Practices - no cost, low cost actions that can impact energy usage
Measures - actions that generally require a substantial investment to impact energy usage
Boilers, Compressed Air, HVAC Systems, etc - sector/technology specific information
Although it is possible to start at 'Page 1' and read to the end, TechPro is intended to allow the user to have direct access to each section in any order (or no order). Similar topics are cross-linked within the page, or a new section/page can be selected from the left-hand navigation panel at any time. To allow a larger display panel, the left-hand navigation panel can be adjusted in size, or closed.
Energy Technology Profiles, Energy TechPro™, aka TechPro, was created by Bob Fegan (Author) as a training aid and reference program for energy utilities' Large Commercial and Industrial Reps/Consultants. It's current format was initiated in mid- 2001. A Residential Version was added in 2003, and this Energy Management Module was introduced in 2004. EM has content for corporate energy managers, consultants and anyone else working to manage energy costs. Energy TechPro continues to expand as new information about energy technologies becomes available and the diversity of user's needs increase.
With the introduction of the internet and various activities of energy associations and manufacturers, we no longer lack for information. What we need is a way to organize the best information so we can find what we need when we need it and know how to correctly apply what we 'know'.
The information content of Energy TechPro comes from a wide variety of sources, including the author's experience of over 20 years in the energy business. The author has written an Introduction or Overview, Applications, and other general information about each technology. Additional details are then added from various manufacturers, trade organizations, and other recognized experts. If a substantial portion of any topic comes from a source other than the author's own words, that source will be identified either in the content or at the end of that section/page. Often the source is a manufacturer or association web site, sales literature, trade magazines, and other public information, that may include trade marks and claims to various copyrights.
There has been no attempt to include all manufacturers or 'endorsed/approved' manufacturers in any technology. In some cases, there may be only one or very few manufacturers. No product endorsements are made and no fees have been paid by anyone who has products or services referenced in TechPro. Materials have been selected according to their value in explaining a given technology and by their availability in the public sector.
In some cases the 'author' is really an 'editor' in that I have selected small amounts of information from several sources and combined them into what I think is the information that a utility rep needs to know to do THEIR job; not what may be needed to operate a process, run a machine, or be an 'expert' in any given topic.
No guarantee of accuracy, claims of ownership on other people's work, or use right is made on the individual subject content in TechPro. It IS the structure, operational function and character of TechPro as an "electronic file cabinet" that IS proprietary and uniquely the ownership of the author and his employer. See the Legal Section for more details.
If you've ever used Windows based Help Menus, you already know how to use this program. Along the left side of the screen, there is a window that contains "Books" and "Pages" (or other similar icons depending on your version and configuration). Clicking on any Book shows the Pages (Page Icon with '?' on it). (It may be a Double or Single Click, depending on your set-up and where you are in the program.)
Clicking on any Page opens that Page and its contents
in the main/right hand window. You
may scroll the page or move around by selecting links. Links
are in Blue, Purple or other colors depending on what kind of link it
is and if it has been used during the current session. More
information is sometimes available in 'pop-up windows' when the mouse
pointer is moved over Topics that contain them. "Back"
and "Forward" buttons are used just like the internet browsers.
NOTE: If a link is to a web site, you MUST have an internet browser/service installed. If a link is to an external file, you must also have that file installed on your computer along with Technology Profiles. Adobe PDFs and PowerPoint Presentations are always external files. Functional Spreadsheets and Word Processing templates are also external files. You must also have the applicable software to open external files. External files appear as a 'button' that contains the name of the external file.
